Thematic Interdisciplinary Challenge (TIC)

Contesting Governance

Within this TIC we apply critical, interdisciplinary perspectives to unravel how governing power is constituted and how it operates across institutional and societal fields. We focus both on formal power holders and civil society and non-state actors. Students will contribute to transformative research that that creates and safeguards open societies by working on challenges within the fields of human rights and conflict & security.

Some potential themes within this TIC are cut across data/life sciences as well as the social sciences and humanities. Examples of this might be the use and development of Artificial Intelligence, algorithms, geolocation and tracking of human rights-related issues, or the various ways governments have been responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
